Five-Year-Old Boy Killed While Riding His Bike
A 5-year-old boy in Utah was killed after being hit by a vehicle while he was riding his bike. The accident occurred on Thursday evening and the boy died at the medical facility where he was transported following the accident. The report states that a white Chevrolet Lumina struck 5-year-old Andrew Reddig as the vehicle was traveling on a westbound road.
According to statements from witnesses and from the driver of the vehicle, the driver did not have enough time to make a complete stop in order to avoid hitting Reddig. Reddig died from head injuries he suffered in the accident. Reddig was reportedly not wearing a bicycle helmet when the accident occurred. Investigators in the incident believe that speed was not a factor. The driver of the Lumina willingly submitted to a blood test to determine if any substances including alcohol may have been a factor.
This is one of many very unfortunate car-bicycle incidents that occur far too often. Although this incident may be different, in many instances, children are often left without any supervision when they are playing outside. There is no report on whether the child in this case was left alone or not. Very often, children are not entirely aware of their surroundings and can easily suffer any kind of injury or worse, a fatality in incidents like this one.
