Social Network Facebook Faces Class-Action Suit
According to Macworld.com, the social network Facebook is facing a class-action lawsuit filed by a Canadian law firm arguing the social network failed to maintain users’ privacy. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a Winnipeg resident for an unspecified amount. The lawsuit argues that the social networking website misused Donald J. Woligroski’s personal information including using it for commercial purposes.
According to the report, the lawsuit argues that the social networking website’s actions were deceitful and failed to maintain its users’ information. This is one of many incidents that Facebook faced since April revolving around privacy issues with its website.
In the age of the social networking website and the rise of technology as a whole, privacy has become an increasingly important issue. This is especially the case with social networking sites because users expect a very high level of privacy. Social networking websites have come under tremendous fire because of several incidents where a user’s personal information was discovered and used improperly. There have been other incidents involving violent crimes against users resulting from people accessing that user’s personal information. Myspace is another social networking website that has faced increasing scrutiny as much as, if not more than Facebook.
