Football Player Dies in Tragic Car Accident

Emil Smith, a 2011 football commit to Boise State, died in a car accident on June 17th Saturday evening. Smith was a passenger in the speeding automobile with 22-year old Dimitri Garcia who also died.

 

Smith was a weakside defensive end who played for Rancho Verde High School in Perris, California. Emil Smith died approximately one hour after arriving at the hospital. Witnesses of the accident told police that the driver of the yellow Dodge Neon was driving west at around midnight when the accident occured. The car lost control when it hit the dirt median and spun on the eastbound lanes. Unfortunately a minivan that was headed east could not avoid hitting the Dodge Neon and slammed into the driver’s side. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the minivan and a passenger were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
