Motorcycle Accident Kills One Person in Rochester
According to a report posted on Rochester, NY’s WHEC.com, a 20-year-old man was killed following a motorcycle accident on Thursday. The report states Justin Melia lost control of his motorcycle and hit a guardrail along the side of the road and he was then thrown from his bike.
According to authorities, Melia should not have been riding by himself on the motorcycle as he did not have proper licensing to do so. There is no word in the report as to what caused Melia to lose control of the motorcycle and there is also no word whether an investigation will be conducted into the accident or not.
There are many incidents of motorcycle accidents that could easily be prevented if the rider takes proper precautions and abides by roadway safety signs as well as state driving laws. The article in this case states that it is against the law to operate a motorcycle without a license, even if a person has a permit to ride a motorcycle. This incident may very well have been prevented if Melia had stayed off the road with the motorcycle until after getting the license. Granted, an accident could still easily occur despite the license. However, a license test is given to people who want to operate a vehicle so that they can learn to be aware of their surroundings and practice safe driving in any situation. Had Melia taken these tests, it could have given him the experience he needed to be safer on the roadways in his motorcycle and this accident could have been prevented.
