Class Action Lawsuit Regarding Contaminated Water Settled

Some of the residents in Crestwood, Ill. filed a class action lawsuit claiming they had been exposed to contaminated water supplies for over 20 years. In an investigation from the Chicago Tribune, it was discovered that the area was receiving water from a water well that was contaminated even after several warnings about the contamination. The $2 million settlement will be split amongst the residents involved in the class action lawsuit and it will also be used to cover expenses for the residents. In addition, details in the settlement state residents will get a freeze on vehicle sticker and business license costs as well as trash removal service costs for two years.

There is no information in the report regarding the specific contaminants that were in the water supply. However, regardless of the specifics, the fact that the residents in the town were receiving contaminated water for 2 decades is still bad enough. There is no report on any incidents of illness but it is a possibility for residents to become very ill as a result of the contaminated water. Depending on the severity of the contaminants, some instances could have been extremely severe. It is fortunate if there had not been any illnesses in this town and it is also fortunate that the water supply will be environmentally tested to ensure that they residents are no longer put in harm’s way.
