Motorcycle Rider Dies After Hitting Barricade

In San Antonio, TX, an unidentified man was killed in a motorcycle accident when he lost control over the bike and struck a barricade. The man was reportedly not wearing a helmet when he was riding on Loop 410 traveling southbound at over 100 miles per hour according to witnesses that saw the accident occur. The posted speed limit was 75 miles per hour on the highway. No information has been released as to the cause of the accident aside from excessive speeding. There is also no information on any pending investigation into the accident either.

College Hockey Players Accused of Wrongful Death Following Bar Altercation

The Dunn County News website reports that two former students in Wisconsin are named in a wrongful death lawsuit along with the Log Jam tavern and Society Insurance Company, the tavern’s insurance carrier. The lawsuit is being filed by the parents of a 22-year-old man that died after he was allegedly assaulted by the 2 students and several other members of the University of Wisconsin -Stout hockey team.

Consumers Energy Co. Named in Wrongful Death Lawsuit

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a man and a woman that died in an explosion at a furniture store in December.  Residents in Wayne County, Detroit complained of a gas smell in the area before the explosion occurred. The lawsuit contends that Consumers Energy, the company that supplies gas to the neighborhood where the furniture store is located, did not act responsibly or quickly enough in evacuating the area after complaints began to arise.

Two Left in Critical Condition after Phoenix Motorcycle Accident

In Phoenix, AZ, two people were left in extremely critical condition following a motorcycle accident. Both victims were riding together and the driver attempted to make a left-hand turn in the roadway but was unable to complete the turn. The motorcycle fell on the road and seriously injured both victims, each in their 40’s. Authorities believe alcohol was a factor in the accident. Neither person was wearing a helmet when the accident occurred. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Baby Burned By Drano in Diaper at Day Care

In McKees Rocks, PN a 7-month-old-girl was badly burned by a chemical soaked diaper while she was being cared for at a day care on Tuesday January 3rd. The manager of Butterfly Garden early Learning Center claims that the worker at the daycare was unaware the diaper was soaked in any chemicals and is unsure how the chemicals came into contact with the diapers.

Woman Accused of Abusing 2-Year-Old in Day Care

In Sioux Falls, SD, a 32-year-old city day care employee had her day care registration revoked and could be facing jail time stemming from an incident involving a possible case of child abuse against a 2-year-old boy. Aubrey Arin Schaaf was charged with one count each of abuse or cruelty to a minor, aggravated assault and providing or allowing day care services to be provided by a person convicted of child abuse or neglect. In the initial incident, the 2-year-old boy’s parents picked him up from the day care center and noticed a band-aid on his hand. Schaaf claimed she put it on to cover up a burn that the boy got when he touched a faucet running hot water. However, when the boy was taken to the doctor, medical professionals stated the burn was more likely from somebody holding his hand under scalding hot water. Schaaf faces a 30 year prison sentence if she is convicted of the abuse and assault charges.

3 San Diego Children Awarded $14.4M in Wrongful Death Suit

The children of a San Diego couple have been awarded $14.4 million in a wrongful death lawsuit settlement. In 2006, the couple was driving on Highway 98 in Arizona when Casey Barber lost control of their Ford E350 van. The van subsequently rolled over and killed Barber and his wife Melanie. Authorities are blaming right-rear tire separation for causing the accident. At the time of the accident, the children were ages 3, 5, and 8 years old.

A 53-year-old man has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, harboring a dangerous dog, attacks by a dangerous dog, and attacks causing severe injury or death stemming from an incident on March 24th of last year when his 4-year-old dog bit an 18-month-old girl and her grandmother. The 18-month-old girl’s uncle also stated that the dog bit his sister causing her to require 15 stitches.

18-Year-Old Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide

An 18-year-old New Jersey man pleaded guilty to several charges including assault by auto and vehicular homicide stemming from an incident that occurred in March. Michael Woehrle, then 17 years old, was originally charged as a juvenile but had his case transferred to criminal court in the Superior Court in Freehold, New Jersey. Woehrle pleaded guilty to the charges in connection to the homicide of 22-year-old Tyshon Thorpe.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Against Tow Truck Company

In Illinois, the parties involved in a wrongful death lawsuit are coming to a settlement, according to a report on The Madison St. Claire Record. In the suit, a tow truck driver and the driver’s employer were sued after a man and his nine-month-old son were killed after the tow truck crashed into the car the man was driving. The lawsuit alleges that the tow truck driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The man’s family is seeking $50,000 for each person’s death. The driver of the tow truck is currently facing criminal charges as a result of the accident.

Toyota Pays Out $10 Million for California Lawsuit Settlement

The automaker Toyota has paid $10 million to settle a lawsuit brought against them on behalf of a state trooper who was killed in a fatal auto accident. This lawsuit was one of the initial sparks that brought attention to Toyota’s safety issues with the sudden acceleration problem on many of their vehicles. The incident that occurred in 2009 involved off-duty officer Mark Saylor, his 13-year-old daughter and his brother-in-law.
