Woman Nearly Mauled by Pit Bull Dog, Dog Shot by Witness
A San Antonio, TX woman escaped serious injuries from an attack by a pit bull dog when a man licensed to carry a firearm witnessed the attack and shot the dog in the leg. The dog was euthanized later following the incident. 58-year-old Angelita Deleon suffered bites to her head, face, and neck after the pit bull knocked her to the ground. Deleon was taken to a medical facility but was subsequently released without serious injuries.
The dog was not provoked to attack in any way; the attack was out of nowhere. Police stated if the man had not shot the dog, the woman could possibly have been killed by the dog. The owner of the dog was not identified but they could be facing a citation if they are found.
There is often a concern over allowing people to carry concealed weapons with or without a license. However, in this case, the dog attack could have been much worse if the man had not been able to stop the dog from further harming Deleon. The owner could possibly be cited for not keeping their dog safely in their home and for the injuries that the woman suffered as a result of the attack. The man’s quick thinking in coming to Deleon’s aid could possibly have saved her life in this attack.
