55-Year-Old Woman Severely Injured in Pit Bull Attack
A Las Vegas woman was severely injured following an attack by the family dog. The attack occurred late in the evening. A pit bull dog attacked the woman and two others causing the woman to lose some fingers and she could possibly lose her foot as a result of the injuries she suffered in the attack. The two other victims – a 23-year-old woman and a man both suffered bites as well. The man was forced to shoot and kill the pit bull dog. Neither he nor the 23-year-old victim suffered serious injuries in this incident. The cause of the attack is unknown at this time.
There is no information in this report whether the dog was a stray dog or if it had an owner. If the dog had an owner, that person could be held liable for the injuries that the 55-year-old woman suffered as a result of this attack. Unfortunately attacks like this occur very frequently and often the victims are left severely injured or are killed in these attacks. Most cases involve a dog that is much bigger than its victim and the dog is able to pin down the victim and cause serious injury such as deep gashes and bites.
If those injuries are left without proper wound care, they could cause infections or other serious complications. Many victims unfortunately require some sort of reconstructive surgery because of the severity of their wounds. Although this incident involved an adult, children also are victimized in dog attacks as well. They are often unable to react quickly enough and are subsequently bitten in the face or body. In situations such as this one, the dog’s owner should be held responsible for the attack and should be brought to justice.
