Woman Attacked by Pit Bull Suffers Puncture Wounds
A 39-year-old woman suffered puncture wounds to her arm and abdomen after being attacked by a pit bull dog in Palm Beach County, Florida. The woman was bitten by a male pit bull that had puppies with the woman’s female pit bull. The woman reportedly picked up one of the puppies to put it with the rest of the litter when the male pit bull jumped up and attacked the woman.
A witness in the home tried to stop the dog from attacking and was also bitten but their bite wounds were not as severe as the woman’s were. The male pit bull was euthanized following this attack because authorities believed the dog still posed a threat to others including the staff at the animal shelter where the dogs were kept after the attack.
This is one of many stories that could possibly contribute to the highly debated issue whether pit bulls are dangerous dogs or not. Proponents believe pit bulls are extremely dangerous and they believe laws should be set in place for owners. Opponents believe that these dogs are no more dangerous than any other dog could be. Whether a person believes they are dangerous or not, this incident demonstrates that it is very easy for a dog attack with injuries could easily occur.
The dog that attacked in this case could have been reacting by instinct to protect his puppy and therefore attacked the woman. However, this dog could also have been a dangerous and aggressive dog to begin with, thus creating the right circumstances for this attack to happen. Dog attacks happen against many people including innocent children and in these cases, the owners should be held accountable if they are not ensuring the safety of their pets.
