38 People Suffer Minor Injuries after Train Crash
A train in New Jersey overran the stop at a train station forcing the station to close down the entire morning. 38 people suffered minor injuries, 33 of which were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The other 5 people were treated at the scene of the train accident. The CNN report states the train was not derailed when it crashed into the bumper in the station. The bumper block that it crashed into absorbed a majority of the impact, preventing a more serious crash from occurring. The incident is currently being investigated by authorities to determine the cause of the crash.
There are a number of things that could easily have gone wrong in this incident, which could have cost the lives of many people onboard the train. A train is a very large vehicle and because of its size, this train accident could have been far worse than it was. The people on board the train and the people waiting at the train station could have been severely injured, especially if the train had derailed. The bumper blocks in place at the train station prevented what could have been a very serious catastrophe. The train operator could have been held liable since he was the person running the train and getting the people on board to their respective destinations. If the accident did turn out worse than it was and the train operator was found to be at fault, he would be held responsible for injuring many people.
