Crib Recalled for Infant Deaths

Delta Enterprise Safety Peg Drop-Side Crib has been recalled again after being connected to two infant deaths. The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall in 2008 and is re-releasing this recall after to a second infant death in 2009. It has been speculated that the infant was sleeping in a crib bought second-hand and was therefore missing necessary safety features.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed After Tractor Collides with AMTRAK

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a man who lost his wife and 18-year-old granddaughter in a collision involving an AMTRAK train and a tractor trailer. The two were riding in a passenger car behind the one that was struck by the tractor trailer. The passenger car they were riding in caught fire and the two died as a result.

Study Shows Smartphones Account For 25% of Traffic Accidents

The Governors Highway Safety Association conducted a study that revealed that driver distraction due to smartphones accounts for roughly 15 to 25% of all traffic accidents. The GHSA is urging states to enforce laws pertaining to cell phone use for novice drivers as well as laws pertaining to texting while driving.

University Football Player Dies of Head Injuries after Car Accident

In Kansas City, a university football player was killed and several others injured in a single-vehicle automobile accident that occurred June 10th. The 18-year-old student died of head injuries that he sustained in the accident. The incident occurred when the car was headed down a two-lane roadway when it swerved to avoid another car in front. The vehicle subsequently rolled over into a nearby yard. Police did not believe alcohol or high speeds were factors in this accident. The football player that was killed was a passenger in the vehicle that was involved.

Police Search for Couple Following Dog Bite Incident

Heath, Ohio police are on the lookout for a couple after their dog reportedly bit a 7-year-old boy at a Sonic Drive-In restaurant. Police said witnesses reported a group of children speaking with the couple asking if they could pet their dog. The woman reportedly told the kids that the dog was not always friendly with children. The children started to walk away from the couple when the dog lunged at the 7-year-old and bit him.

Pit Bull Dog Mauls 12-Year-Old Boy Causing Serious Injuries

A 12-year-old boy was listed in serious condition at a San Diego children’s hospital after being attacked and mauled by a pit bull dog while he was walking into the back yard of his neighbor’s home. The incident occurred late June 13th when the boy went to his neighbor’s home to retrieve a towel that fell into the back yard. The neighbor accompanied the boy to the back yard and as the boy opened the sliding door to the back yard, the pit bull dove on the boy.
