London Bus Driver Involved in Serious Bus Accident, Kills One Person
A 65-year-old pedestrian was killed after a single-deck bus struck him. The incident originally occurred in January and police recently discovered the bus driver had only received 30 minutes of training with this particular model of buses before she got behind the wheel of the bus. The accident occurred when the 44-year-old bus driver attempted to turn the corner in the road when the bus rolled onto the sidewalk striking a street lamp post and ultimately hitting the 65-year-old Ministry of Defense worker and pinning him against some railings. The bus continued to roll 165 feet before coming to a stop.
The elderly victim in the accident received emergency surgery when he arrived at the medical facility but authorities said he was pronounced dead the following morning. The bus driver was a professional driver with almost 10 years of training including one year of training with buses. However, the model of bus she was driving at the time of the accident had recently been introduced and she only received 30 minutes of training. Authorities said the bus driver accidently hit the accelerator instead of the brake as she was driving.
When a person is given a position of employment where they are required to have a high amount of training to do their job, it is the responsibility of the company to provide that training if they can do so. In this incident, even if the bus driver had been trained to operate a bus in general, if the new model of the bus incorporates several changes to it, the drivers should receive training for the new model of buses.
This accident might have been prevented if the bus driver had been given the proper amount of training so that she could become more familiar with the bus and its controls. If she had been given this training, she would have been able to gauge things such as the weight of the bus, the turning radius and several other factors that a trained driver should take into account. If you or a loved one are injured in an automobile accident of any kind that is a result of an improperly trained driver, the company responsible for training the driver could be held accountable and you could receive compensation for damage or injuries.
