Pennsylvania Man Suffers Head Injury in Construction Zone Accident
A Pennsylvania man suffered injuries to his head and neck and had to be transported to a medical facility after an accident involving a construction truck. Witnesses told authorities that the victim got out of the truck and went to grab equipment and a lunchbox out of the back of the truck. The victim then knelt down on the ground to pick up some of the items that he dropped when the driver of the truck backed up into the man striking him in the head and neck area.
Police said the truck driver did not see the victim as he was backing up. Despite the accident the victim was said to be in good condition at a medical facility where he was receiving treatment.
Construction workers often face dangerous situations working with the large machinery and equipment that they use on a majority of construction sites. They not only have to receive training to properly handle the equipment, but they must also be completely alert and under control of the situation to prevent from hurting themselves or other workers on site. As this incident demonstrates, many accidents involving construction workers happen more often than people might realize. Although workers are highly trained to use equipment and vehicles on a construction site, there are a number of factors that can contribute to accidents especially with the large vehicles construction workers are trained to use.
In this incident, the victim simply bent down to pick up some items from the floor. As a result, he was obscured from the driver’s view as he backed up. It does not take a drastic event to occur to cause a very serious accident. This accident could have been much worse if the victim had fallen on the ground and gotten run over by the truck. Fortunately, the man suffered minor injuries and he will soon recover completely from those injuries. Many people involved in construction zone accidents are not as fortunate and some often lose their lives as a result of the accident. If this accident had been caused by negligence from the driver involved, the driver could have been held accountable for his actions causing injury to his co-worker.
These things always happen in my work place. Over 15,000 workers are facing dangerous situations every day here on Shipyards. And if they were into accident, they are not compensated well. I feel bad for them.
