74-Year-Old Man Sustains Fatal Injuries in Automobile Accident
A Cedar City, Utah man died from fatal injuries he suffered following a two-car auto accident. The 74-year-old man was riding in a minivan along with 2 other occupants when an SUV traveling south collided with them as they attempted to cross in front of the SUV and make a left turn. Witnesses attempted to provide some sort of aid to the victims and assisted in getting them out of the vehicles.
The elderly man died after being transported to a medical facility. The two other occupants in the minivan, ages 50 and 72 were also taken to a medical facility following the accident. Authorities did not know the conditions of the occupants that survived the accident and they have yet to find what caused the accident.
In an automobile accident involving 2 or more cars, the first determination that should be made is whether one or more parties involved made an error in judgment with their driving. If one of the drivers cut in front of another or failed to yield to the other driver, they could be held accountable for the automobile accident. If the driver in the SUV failed to yield to the minivan then the driver of the SUV could be held accountable for causing this accident. However, if the minivan failed to yield to the SUV before making the left turn, they could be deemed accountable for causing the accident.
Following proper driving laws is vital to preventing automobile accidents such as this one. The drivers involved should have yielded before moving forward at the intersection where they crashed. Many broadside or side-impact collisions occur as a result of one person failing to yield to the other when they are making a turn at an intersection. If both drivers had yielded to one another in this incident, the accident wouldn’t have occurred and the 74-year-old man riding in the minivan would still be alive. Driving laws are set in place to prevent such accidents from occurring. Side-impact accidents are especially dangerous because the victims often suffer serious injuries due to the impact and minimal protection on the side of the vehicle.
