One Pedestrian Killed in Automobile Accident in Texas

A car-pedestrian accident that occurred at the Galveston seawall left one person dead earlier this week. The accident occurred in the early morning hours when a vehicle had driven off the seawall. When police arrived at the scene they found two people who had been run over. The victims were a 34-year-old woman from Arkansas and a 36-year-old man from Texas.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The man was taken to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle that struck the two victims, a 29-year-old man, was charged with driving while intoxicated, which he had been charged with twice before, as well as manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is held in custody on a $150,000 bond.

The fact that the driver in this incident had been previously charged with driving while intoxicated demonstrates how some drivers seem careless in the way they operate their vehicles in the streets. This accident could have been avoided if the driver had not been intoxicated while he was driving. In addition, the driver could face stiff penalties because of the added charges of aggravated assault and manslaughter. The driver is only 29-years-old and he could face a long jail sentence because of his reckless actions.

As pedestrians, people need to be extremely careful when walking down busy streets because in these busy streets cars often drive at high speeds. Although that’s not to say people should always be fearful of walking through the street, they should be on heightened awareness to ensure their safety. Even other drivers on the roadway should be careful to ensure that there are no speeding vehicles that could potentially cause a serious accident. Although the woman’s death could not have been foreseen in this accident, the accident itself should have been avoidable if not for the reckless actions of a man who chose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. No driver should be able to get away with seriously injuring or killing someone because they decided to operate their vehicle knowing they were intoxicated.
