Woman Arrested after Daughter's Death in Auto Wreck

The mother of a 17-year-old girl that was killed in a drunken driving accident was arrested and accused of helping her daughter acquire alcohol before going to a party. Authorities said the woman took her 17-year-old daughter to a convenience store in San Francisco and allowed her to purchase beer and wine coolers. The next morning the 17-year-old was killed in an automobile accident in which the driver did not notice the traffic in front had stopped, leading to a front-rear collision.

The 17-year-old was tossed forward from the middle of the back seat. She died one week short of her 18th birthday at the hospital as a result of the injuries she sustained. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle she was riding in now faces criminal charges of drunk driving. The owner of the convenience store was also arrested in connection with the accident but his attorney is disputing the arrest.

Teenagers often make bad decisions that could potentially become dangerous ones but when a parent seemingly condones their actions, it makes the situation much worse because they are acting negligently in caring for their child. This incident demonstrates what negligence could possibly result in when a parent willfully allows their child to purchase alcohol knowing that they are not only a minor but they could easily put themselves in serious danger as a result. It can be argued that the resulting automobile accident that occurred could have been foreseen before it happened and could easily have been prevented if the girl’s mother had been more cautious and aware of what her child was doing. Although her daughter was not the driver in this situation, it is still a bad decision to allow her to purchase alcohol.

This kind of negligence should always be punished to the highest extent of the law because the parent should be more responsible and ensure that their children are not getting themselves into potentially fatal situations like this one turned out to be. If you or a loved one were injured in an automobile accident because of another person’s negligence, an attorney can discuss the proper legal action you can take against the person involved to get compensation for your injuries and any damages.
