Dog Bites Child in Eye

WAAF 48 News in Lexington, Alabama have reported that a 6-year-old child was transported to a hospital after being bitten in the eye by a dog. According to the report, the dog was found in the boy’s yard and the boy went to pet the dog. The dog began growling and when the child stood up, the dog attacked him and bit him in the eye and in both of his ears.

The report states that the dog is currently in quarantine. No information has been given on the treatment that the boy will be receiving as a result of this attack. There is also no information on whether the dog’s owner will face any legal action for the attack.

Children are often the ones that face the most danger with any kind of animal, including dogs. In most cases, a child will go to pet a dog despite not knowing where the dog comes from or whether or not the dog is dangerous. In the event that the dog actually is dangerous, the potential for serious injury is significantly increased. 78 People Killed by Rabid Dogs

The Associated Press has posted a story on Google News about the deaths of 78 people as a result of attacks from rabid dogs in Bali, Indonesia. One of the victims was an 8-year-old boy that was attacked and bitten on the calf. The boy’s family was told that he would only require stitches to fix the wound and that no cases of rabies had been reported in the area.

However, just two days after receiving stitches, the boy suddenly died. The boy’s parents reportedly stated that he was delirious and had foam coming from his mouth. The boy’s death is one of 78 that have been reported in the past two years in Indonesia, according to the report. The World Health Organization reportedly recommended a mass vaccination after a reported 30,000 dog bite cases in the first half of this year alone. However, rather than heed these recommendations, the Indonesian government opted to kill over 200,000 dogs in order to stifle the attacks.

Rabies is a very serious disease that kills thousands of people when they are attacked by an infected animal. Rabies is not only limited to dogs; many other animals can be carrying the disease and can then transfer it to humans. In humans, rabies is extremely dangerous because it can kill a person within days of contracting it. Unfortunately, children are much more susceptible to contracting the disease than adults. Elderly Man Killed In Pit Bull Attack

According to a Google News report from the Associated Press, a 71-year-old man in Tennessee went into cardiac arrest after two pit bull dogs attacked him. The report states he died at the hospital and the immediate cause of death was not known at the time.

 

The man suffered several bites to his body. In addition, a 25-year-old woman was also bitten and she is currently in critical condition at a Tennessee hospital. In a third incident involving the two pit bull dogs, a paramedic and a fire lieutenant were also bitten and suffered injuries to the leg and abdomen respectively. The dogs have reportedly been captured at the time the report was posted.

The National Pet Owners Society estimates that 71.1 million homes own a dog. There are 4 million dog bite-related injuries in the United States each year. 3% of these cases go unreported. The victim is either afraid of going to court or feels that they are at fault and will not get compensation for their injuries. Most dog bites require immediate medical attention. Woman Recovering From Dog Attack in Oklahoma

An Oklahoma woman is currently recovering from a dog attack according to local Oklahoma City website, KOCO.com. Mary Wolf was reportedly attacked by five pit bulls just outside her home after getting out of her vehicle. Wolf then got back in her car but was unable to call anybody for help. A neighbor eventually saw Wolf and called for help.

According to the report, Oklahoma City deputies must decide whether to charge the owner of the dogs with any criminal charges. The owner of the dog agreed to euthanize the dogs following the attack. Wolf was given stitches for the injuries that she suffered in the attack.

Dog attacks are one of many incidents that cause severe injuries to many people. Unfortunately, children are often the victims of these attacks; however, adults are no less likely to be attacked, as demonstrated in this case.
