Mother Saved in Accident, 6-Year-Old Calls for Help

A New York woman and her 6-year-old son were involved in a serious automobile accident that left the woman trapped in the vehicle for a significant amount of time. The accident occurred when the woman swerved to avoid an oncoming truck and veered off an embankment down a steep, snowy hill. The car the two were riding in rolled over multiple times before landing upside down at the bottom of the hill.

The 6-year-old boy told his mother he was fine and climbed out of the car through the trunk. He then walked up the 30-foot embankment and yelled for someone to come and help them. Neither the boy nor his mother suffered serious injuries in the accident and both received medical attention at a nearby medical center.

If not for this little boy’s bravery, the woman in this incident could have been trapped in the vehicle and she potentially could have lost her life due to exposure. When inclement weather is involved there is always a possibility that the weather could negatively affect victims involved in an automobile accident if they are left trapped in their vehicle for long periods of time. Fortunately, the boy did not suffer serious injuries and was able to climb out of the car and save his mother. Many people would continue to drive off despite seeing the accident and those are the cases that often leave victims suffering and potentially causing serious injury or death because the victims do not receive immediate medical care.

The fact that the woman had to swerve to avoid hitting another vehicle played a part in this accident as well. If the other vehicle was driving in an unsafe manner, the driver of that vehicle could be held responsible for the accident that put the lives of these two people in serious danger. If another party is found to be at fault for this type of accident and the victim is forced to veer off the road and ends up getting injured as a result of falling down an embankment, the person who was at fault should be held responsible for the accident and they should be brought to justice. The victims deserve to have compensation on their behalf for their pain and suffering.

Car Collides with 12 Motorcycles, 5 People Killed

Four people riding in motorcycles and the passenger of a Dodge Avenger were killed Saturday the 13h when the Dodge Avenger collided with 12 motorcycles in San Diego, CA. The driver in the Avenger was attempting to avoid hitting a Honda Civic that had driven past the 12 motorcycles.

The driver of the Avenger then collided with the group of motorcycles, killing the 5 people. The report states 6 other riders were injured in the accident as well. Police are looking for the driver of the Honda Civic, as the driver fled the scene. According to the report, the driver may have fled across the California-Mexico border so they are checking video cameras stationed at the border crossing.

Leaving the scene of an accident that involves personal injury to one or more people involved is a very serious offense and the penalties vary by law. However, since this accident occurred at the border of another country and the driver fled to that other country, it makes it more difficult to catch that person. Police officers are essentially confined to their own jurisdiction and are unable to make any arrests or pursue a person in a separate jurisdiction except in special circumstances.

42-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed After Auto Accident

According to the Northwest Herald in Illinois, a 42-year-old man was killed following an early morning car accident on the 14th of November. Pedro Gomez was reportedly walking along the road when a 1991 Honda vehicle struck him. The vehicle was driven by 60-year-old Richard Trevin.

Authorities stated Gomez died on the scene of the accident. An investigation is currently ongoing according to the report. There is currently no information on the cause of the accident or the factors that contributed to this accident.

People are well aware of the dangers of driving and the many causes of accidents on roadways. However, many people do not take into consideration the possibility of accidents involving a pedestrian on the side of roadways. People walking along sidewalks or parking lots or in driveways are in greater danger of being hit by a driver either not paying attention to the road or a driver who is impaired in some way. For example, drunk driving can greatly increase the possibility of a pedestrian being hit by a car.

Accidents involving pedestrians in most cases could be the fault of both parties involved. In some cases, drivers do not pay attention to their surroundings such as pedestrians walking along crosswalks, intersections or sidewalks and inadvertently striking them. In other cases, pedestrians are not aware of any cars crossing into their path and unfortunately are seriously injured after being struck by a car.

Two Phoenix Teenagers Impaled in Car Accident

In Phoenix, Arizona, two teenagers are suffering life-threatening injuries following an automobile accident. A 14-year-old boy was driving a 1999 Chrysler LHS at a high rate of speed and collided with a fence. One of the metal poles from the fence pierced through the front of the car and impaled the driver and a passenger in the backseat.

The 14-year-old’s mother allowed her son to take the car along with four of his friends. Authorities stated that the mother will be facing charges as a result of this accident for allowing her son to operate the vehicle.

This incident demonstrates a blatant act of negligence on the part of the boy’s mother for simply handing him the keys and allowing him to operate a vehicle. In Arizona, the minimum age to obtain a permit is 15 years and 6 months and between 16-18 years old to obtain a license for teenagers. Most people believe that since their child is a year or less away from the legal age, it doesn’t make much of a difference if they allow their child to drive. However, even when a person is of legal age to drive, the chances of getting in a car accident are no different. It is a matter of clear negligence for a person to allow their child to operate a vehicle without a license or permit and without proper experience and knowledge of operating a vehicle.

Woman Dies Following Auto Accident

In Arbroath, Scotland, a 78-year-old woman has died one month after sustaining severe injuries in an automobile collision. Agnes Ferrier had initially been listed in critical condition but had been recovering from her injuries following surgical procedures. Ferrier reportedly suffered a shattered pelvis and internal bleeding after being struck by a vehicle. Following surgery to repair the damage that was done, Ferrier was said to be in good condition and making a good recovery.

However, Ferrier’s health began to decline and she later died while in the hospital. Ferrier’s son has stated that he does not blame the care that the hospital provided for his mother’s death. Although authorities do not believe any foul play was involved in Ferrier’s injuries or her death, a report will still be filed regarding her death.

Although in this incident nobody was found at fault for the woman’s death, there are many other incidents where the care that an individual receives is not enough for them and they pass away as a result. It is unfortunate when a person loses their life as a result of an accident like this one. In some incidents, the vehicle that is struck does not always see the other vehicle approaching and is unable to move out of the way in time. In addition, speed may sometimes be a factor in accidents such as this one. There is no report on the factors that contributed to this accident.

Drunk Driver Seriously Injures Self and Passengers

In Montgomery Co., Virginia a single car accident resulted in three people suffering from serious injuries. The driver was cited for driving under the influence and suffered minor injuries. The two passengers both suffered serious injuries and one is in critical condition.

According to reports, the accident occurred at around 9 p.m. The car apparently ran into an embankment causing it to flip. One of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle and critically injured. He was immediately transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. The second passanger in the vehicle was taken to Valley Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle was Thomas Elwood Wade of Pulaski who suffered minor injuries from the crash. He will be charged with driving under the influence. The crash is currently being investigated by the New River Valley Regional Crash Investigation Team.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), every 45 minutes someone is killed by a drunk driver. A night out with friends led to such a tragic accident that could have been prevented. In many DUI cases, many families make the mistake in assuming that it does not need to be looked into any further than filing a police report. DUI cases are extremely complex and there are many factors that could have caused you or your family member’s injury.

Tragic Car Accident Kills Two Teens

In Wells, Maine, two teenagers died tragically in a single car accident shortly after midnight on Saturday, September 11th. The accident occurred at around 12:40 a.m. on Tatnic Road. Christian Lumenello, a 16-year-old, was driving a Ford Taurus and traveling east-bound at high speeds when he went over a knoll on the road that caused the car to become airborne.

Lumenello lost control of the vehicle when it came back down and the car slid sideways into a tree. The accident caused Lumenello and his passenger Austin Dykes to be killed instantly. His passenger died instantly on the scene and Lumenello was taken by life flight to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead shortly after 3am.

5000 teenagers between the ages of 16 and 20 die in fatal car accidents each year. While many accidents involving teenagers are due to the teen drivers' lack of experience, there may be other factors that are not immediately noticeable, such as manufacturer defects, brake failure, and dangerous roadways. After any such accident, you should contact an attorney who can investigate all possible causes of the accident.

69 Vehicles Involved in Massive Pileup in Phoenix

Arizona authorities responded to a 69-vehicle pileup that occurred on Interstate 10 near the Downtown Phoenix area. The vehicles were involved in 3 separate collisions according to a report on KWTX.com.

Several people were treated on site for minor injuries and six people were taken to local hospitals, two with serious injuries. According to the report, the accident occurred after a rainstorm traveled through the Phoenix area on Saturday afternoon. There is no information regarding the specific injuries that people suffered in the massive pileup. No deaths were reported in this accident.

Poor weather conditions are among the highest reasons for automobile accidents. Inclement weather can result in severe injury because it may cause roads to become slippery or icy, which would cause a vehicle to lose control and cause an accident. It just takes one driver missing a turn or failing to stop and it can easily cause other vehicles to stop abruptly. If the roads are slippery, as in this incident, the vehicles’ tire treads will not be able to grab onto the road to prevent a major accident. In many cases, some drivers suffer extremely serious injuries and even fatalities.

Football Player Dies in Tragic Car Accident

Emil Smith, a 2011 football commit to Boise State, died in a car accident on June 17th Saturday evening. Smith was a passenger in the speeding automobile with 22-year old Dimitri Garcia who also died.

Smith was a weakside defensive end who played for Rancho Verde High School in Perris, California. Emil Smith died approximately one hour after arriving at the hospital. Witnesses of the accident told police that the driver of the yellow Dodge Neon was driving west at around midnight when the accident occured. The car lost control when it hit the dirt median and spun on the eastbound lanes. Unfortunately a minivan that was headed east could not avoid hitting the Dodge Neon and slammed into the driver’s side. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the minivan and a passenger were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

With a serious accident like this that can instantly affect your family’s life; it is difficult to know what course of action to take. There are many possible causes for an accident like this one. For instance, a manufacturer defect with the vehicle, substance abuse, road defect or many other factors could have caused this type of accident.   If you or a family member has been affected by a car accident, seeking a professional is your best option for getting you and your family the help they deserve.

Accidents Involving Prescription Drugs Pose Complications in Prosecuting

According to an article by the New York Times, auto accidents involving prescription drugs are harder to convict and prove as a contributor to an accident or even the sole reason for its occurrence. One of the issues that detectives and police force are facing is that there is no agreement on what level of drugs in the blood impairs driving.

While the numbers of drunken driving deaths are lowering in number, the number of prescriptions for painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medications have increased drastically in numbers. These types of medications can all have different effects on the body and have been reported to cause numerous side effects that can impair a driver in a vehicle. Police have also struggled in trying to convict someone who has legitimate prescriptions. In some states there has been legislation passed against driving under the influence for any type of illegal drug in the blood system. Unfortunately trying to set any kind of limit on prescription drugs has become more complicated because the complex chemistry of each drug makes it difficult to predict how it can affect each person. Currently, there is no statistics available to detect how many accidents have been caused as a result of a driver being under the influence of prescription drugs. The problem is growing at such a rapid pace that police officials have now begun putting new officers into special training that helps them spot signs of drug impairment and have them pushing for the technology to detect it.

The abuse of prescription drug medications has been slipping through the cracks of many automobile accidents. If you or a family member has been involved in an accident involving someone that was under the influence of prescription drugs then contacting a professional, like an Arizona personal injury attorney, who can handle the complexity of the case is imperative.

California Woman Paid Compensation For Injuries

A California woman suffered serious injuries and left her a quadriplegic following an automobile accident. According to a report on the website personalinjurybureau.com, the woman was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer when the left-rear tire separated from the tire tread and caused the woman to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle veered off the road and rolled over into an embankment.

The woman’s attorney submitted evidence that Ford Motor Company failed to maintain the safety of the vehicle when they did not pay for improvements on the Explorer model. Ford engineers had discovered ways to improve safety and stability on the vehicle but did not make any changes to the vehicle. Attorneys on behalf of Ford Motor Company argued that a worn-out tire was the cause of the accident and not any defects in the vehicle itself. Nonetheless, the jury in the lawsuit Castillo filed came to a unanimous decision in Castillo’s favor and she was paid $23.4 million in damages from Ford Motor Company. Ford Motor Company argued that they will be appealing the decision, however, the report states no attempts have been made as of yet.

Vehicle manufacturers have been given much negative press for causing accidents as a result of defects or malfunctions in the design of the vehicle. This incident is one of many lawsuits that car makers have faced due to injuries to consumers resulting from flaws ranging from tire damage to overall frame damage.
