Dog Gets Euthanized After Biting Off Girl's Ear

A 5-year-old girl had part of her ear torn off after a German Shepherd mix dog attacked her. The dog had a history of attacks in the past according to the report on insidebayarea.com. The incident occurred on April 27th as the dog’s owner went to visit the little girl’s parents. The girl attempted to pet the dog but the dog lunged at her and bit off the tip of her right ear.

The girl received medical attention at a nearby medical center and as released the same day. The dog was later placed in 10-day quarantine to ensure it is not infected with rabies. The 10-day quarantine expired on May 6th and the dog was subsequently put to sleep. No arrests or charges will be made in connection with this attack.

One of the most dangerous actions that a child can do is to try and pet a dog they may not necessarily know. If the child has not been exposed to the dog in the past, the dog could easily feel as though the child is trying to hurt it and attack the child. The fact that the dog in this incident has been involved in other incidents in the past is also a factor that needs to be taken into account. The dog’s owner should make others aware of any incidents of dog attacks involving their pet to ensure the safety of those people. If they do not make others aware of their dog’s temperament ahead of time, they should be held accountable for any injuries victims suffer.

Attorneys Argue Florida Dangerous Dog Laws Are Unfair

Naples, FL attorneys representing dog owners of dogs that have been designated as “dangerous dogs” argue that the dangerous dog laws in Florida are unfair to owners and unconstitutional. According to the Naplesnews.com website, a first offense can result in the “dangerous dog” designation and the dog could be quarantined for 10 days.

A second offense also results in 10-day quarantine and could result in the dog being put to sleep. A criminal investigation could be launched against the dog’s owner and the owner could face a fine and either misdemeanor or felony charges depending on whether or not a person was killed as a result of the dog bite.

The attorneys representing owners of four dogs involved in dog-bite incidents argue that the designation of “dangerous dog” was handed down without substantial evidence and without proper testimony against the dogs or the owners. Under dangerous dog laws, dog owners have seven days to appeal the designation or allow the designation to remain and they must then keep their dogs in a six-sided cage. They must also post signs at their houses and enlist their dogs in a dangerous dogs list. In addition to all of this, dog owners must also pay $300 a-year to register their dogs and spay or neuter them.

According to this report, between 2008 and 2010, 59 dangerous dog cases were investigated and thirty-five of the dogs involved in each case were designated as dangerous dogs. Fifteen were given over to Domestic Animal Services, 20 were given back to owners and 22 were not declared as dangerous dogs. Although these dangerous dog laws may seem unfair, the argument could also be made that the dog laws are set in place in order to keep the number of dog bite incidents at a minimum. Every dog owner should be held liable for their dogs’ actions and if an incident does occur and a lawsuit should be filed on behalf of the victim if they suffer any sort of injury.

Two-Year-Old Boy Suffers Gash in Cheek after Dog Bite

A two-year-old boy suffered a very large gash on his cheek after a 5-year-old Rottweiler jumped on top of him and bit him. Aidan Walton had to have nine stitches to repair the wound to his cheek. Authorities also discovered the dog had attacked another two-year-old in 2004 causing injuries.

The dog’s owner, Mary Burman was charged in the attack and her dog was ordered to be euthanized following the attack. Burman reportedly runs the dog park where the attack occurred. The report states that Burman was interviewed by Quebecor Media Inc. regarding the dog park and dog safety and Burman made a statement regarding the temperament of dogs. People attending the dog park believe that Burman should not be treated as though she as an authority on dog safety because they believe she doesn’t know what she is doing. There is no specific information on what charges Burman faces after this attack.

One of the saddest details in this report is that the boy’s family stated that Burman showed no remorse for the incident. The boy’s family stated she never called to check on Aidan’s prognosis after the attack. Although many people know that children should be monitored when there are dogs around to avoid accidents like this, dog owners should take responsibility for their dog’s actions when an attack occurs. The report states that this woman would not admit whether or not she currently owns a dog. This further indicates the woman’s unwillingness to take responsibility for her dog’s actions in attacking the two-year-old boy.

Housekeeper Attacked by Dog in Third Incident at Residence

In Fresno, California, a housekeeper was seriously injured and sent to a medical facility after she was attacked and bitten by two English Bull Terriers. In a previous incident that resulted in a lawsuit against the homeowner, a 12-year-old boy was also seriously injured after being attacked by a dog in the residence. The report states this is the second attack against the housekeeper in the last two months.

The three incidents altogether occurred in the last 8 months. It is a violation of law to maintain a dog with vicious tendencies, however, no legal action has been taken against the home owners as of yet. The woman suffered injuries to her face, arm and legs. The 12-year-old suffered severe scaring to his face as a result of the attack against him.

The fact that these two dogs have attacked people on more than one occasion presents a dangerous situation for many other people that may happen to come across those dogs or the residence where they are kept. According to the report, the homeowners have continued to be uncooperative with law enforcement regarding this matter and one of the dogs was even taken away from the home to an undisclosed location. Unfortunately, this presents a problem for law enforcement as they cannot do anything to prevent any other incidents. As a result, it is possible for many other dog attacks to occur.

According to the report, the dog was found in the boy’s yard and the boy went to pet the dog. The dog began growling and when the child stood up, the dog attacked him and bit him in the eye and in both of his ears.

The report states that the dog is currently in quarantine. No information has been given on the treatment that the boy will be receiving as a result of this attack. There is also no information on whether the dog’s owner will face any legal action for the attack.

Children are often the ones that face the most danger with any kind of animal, including dogs. In most cases, a child will go to pet a dog despite not knowing where the dog comes from or whether or not the dog is dangerous. In the event that the dog actually is dangerous, the potential for serious injury is significantly increased. A child may go to pet a dog or play with it and the dog may consider the child to be a threat. This often leads to the dog attacking the child because it reacts to the child’s actions.
