Anheuser-Busch Pays $1.5M in Suit Over Woman's Death

A 27-year-old woman died in December of an apparent drug overdose at the estate of a Former Anheuser-Busch CEO. The woman reportedly had oxycodone in her system which she took roughly five or six hours before her death. An autopsy also revealed cocaine in the woman’s system which she reportedly took about an hour before her death. A wrongful death lawsuit was filed in connection with the incident by Martin’s ex-husband on behalf of their 8-year-old son, Blake.

According to the report, Busch stated he did not accept the settlement as an admission of negligence or responsibility but simply because he wanted to help the woman’s family and her 8-year-old son. A motion has been filed for approval of the settlement by Cape Girardeau County Circuit Judge William Syler. According to Busch, he found the woman unresponsive in the early afternoon of December 19th and Martin was pronounced dead later that day.

According to this report, the overdose was not a result of foul play; it was deemed an accident according to the Washington post report. As a result of that determination, no criminal charges could be filed against August Busch in the matter. Although a settlement has been reached on the wrongful death lawsuit in this matter, it does not take away from the fact that an 8-year-old boy must now live the rest of his life without his mother. In any incident, if someone is found to have acted negligently causing the death of another person, they should be held accountable for their actions and a lawsuit or criminal investigation should be launched. A child should never have to suffer the loss of a parent or relative for any reason, especially if negligence is involved.
