66,000 Toyo Tires Recalled

Toyo Tires has recalled more than 66,000 tires for a defect that could lead to tire failure. Customers who use the affected tires are advised to return them immediately to avoid the possibility of an accident.

The recall covers the P225/60R-16 Extensa A/S tires that were distributed between September 20, 2009 and November 6, 2010. The tires were manufactured in Georgia and have a "Made in the USA" label. Tires that are labeled "Made in Japan" or "Made in China" do not have the defect and are not covered by the recall.

The defect is a kink in the bead which, left unattended, could lead to tire failure, especially if the tire is underinflated or during spirited driving. Sudden tire failure can easily lead to a severe car accident, so it is recommended that owners of the affected tires get them replaced immediately.

The recall will begin on February 2, but owners of the affected tires can contact Toyo at (800) 442-8696.

Ford Company Recalls Over 100,000 Vehicles Due to Severe Fault

The Ford Motor Company has recalled just over 128,000 of its Mercury Milan vehicles and its Ford Fusion vehicles because of concern over a defect in the vehicle that could cause the wheels to fall off of the vehicles while they are in motion. The NHTSA stated that the model years for some of the vehicles are 2010 and 2011 models. The defect affects the studs on the wheels which could fracture and cause the car to start shaking. If the driver chooses to ignore the shaking, the wheels could possibly fall off the car while it is moving.

The recall primarily affects the steel wheels and not the alloy wheels installed in the 2010 and 2011 cares built between April 2009 and December 2009 to November 2010. The problem in the wheel could be caused either by poor construction in the mounting pads or the disc brake system. There is no report of any injuries or fatalities linked to accidents potentially related to these faulty tires.

A majority of car recalls are often announced for faults in vehicles that do not pose an immediate threat to drivers on roadways. However, this recall is very different because there is a possibility for extremely serious accidents resulting from the defects in these Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles. The fact that the wheels could come off the vehicles while the car is in motion would place the driver in very serious danger, especially if the driver is moving at high speeds. Fortunately there have not been any reports of injuries despite at least 6 cases related to the wheels falling off of the vehicle.

In one case the front wheel fell off the car while the rear wheel fell off the vehicles in the other 5 cases associated with this defect. The recall will be taking effect beginning in January. It is important to note that the company has made the effort to announce the recall as opposed to attempting to hide it from consumers, which not only could have placed those consumers in serious danger but brought legal action against the company if any accidents had occurred. If that had been the case, the victims affected by this type of accident would be able to speak with an attorney to get compensation for their suffering and damages.

36,000 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain Vehicles Recalled

The automaker General Motors has had to announce a recall of over 36,000 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles in a worldwide recall because of a defect affecting the monitoring system in the vehicle for tire pressure. The affected vehicles are in the 2012 model years. The company said the defect could prevent the car from notifying the driver that the tire pressure is below federal standards. They said if the tire is not inflated properly, it could result in damage to the tire causing it to blow out and force the driver in a serious accident.

Under normal circumstances, the warning system installed in the vehicle will light up when the vehicle’s tire pressure reaches 25% below federal standards. However, in the current defective vehicles, the warning light is not lighting up until after that 25% has been surpassed.

There are a number of things that can occur because of the defect in the tire pressure system that could possibly put drivers in serious danger. The tire blowout is only one scenario that could possibly occur if the tires are not properly inflated. In addition, the tire could wear out more easily and the tires could lose traction on the roadway leading to very serious accidents because the driver loses control of the vehicle. The lack of tread in the tire could also cause the car to skid on icy roads or in high speed situations such as on highways where the speed limit is increased compared to other roadways.

The announcement of this recall could possibly prevent these types of accidents from occurring but the chance is still there while the defective vehicles are still on the road. The earlier the drivers of these vehicles are notified about the recall, the better the chances will be that the defective vehicles will be removed from roadways and be repaired. With each recall, the number of affected vehicles is vital because that determines exactly how many people could be in danger because of the defects.

If the company had withheld the information about the defects they could possibly have been held accountable if an accident had occurred as a result of the defects with the tire pressure monitoring system. Unlike some other minor defective parts, a monitoring system that could compromise the safety of the vehicle is a very serious defect regardless of the number of vehicles that are affected by it and thousands of people could be in serious danger. If any drivers are affected by this recall and are involved in a serious accident because of it, they should contact an attorney who can represent them in court to get compensation for the damage to their vehicle and the injuries they suffer as a result.

General Motors Recalls 10K Vehicles Due to Transmission Problems

The car company General Motors was forced to recall over 10,000 SUVs and trucks in two separate recalls because of issues with the transmission and steering. The company announced it was recalling 9,215 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles; both of which are 2011 models, because of a faulty shift lever in the vehicles’ transmission. The company said there were no injuries or accidents related to the defects in the affected vehicles and they have not received any complaints related to the defects.

The NHTSA reports that the transmission defect causes the vehicles to be unable to properly shift into “park” and the car may roll away. In the second recall, the company is recalling 891 trucks and SUVs including the 2011 Cadillac Escalade ESV 1500, the Chevy Silverado, the Suburban 1500 and Chevy Tahoe, GMC Sierra, and GMC Yukon standard and XL 1500 models. The affected vehicles have loose bolts in the steering that could result in the driver losing complete control of the vehicle. In mid-July the company began sending notices to owners of the affected vehicles.

Although there were no injuries or accidents reported in connection with either of these recalls, the potential for an accident is very high. The defective transmission could cause the vehicle to stall or roll away, especially when parked on a steep hill. Accidents have occurred where a driver simply forgets to put the vehicle in park while on a steep hill or incline. In this case, even if the driver does put the parking brake, the car could still roll backward and possibly run over them. While no accidents or complaints were reported, it does not mean that they will not occur.

Both of the defects in these vehicles are very serious and they could cause serious harm to car owners. The fact that the company has sent notices to the vehicle owners does not completely remove the possibility for accidents or injuries to occur. Given that there are over 9,000 affected vehicles affected with the defective transmission, the chances for an accident to occur increase significantly. If any accidents or injuries do occur, the company should be held liable for those accidents and injuries and any potential victims should get justice for their suffering.

This recall includes eight different manufacturers and customers are encouraged to return defective drain covers immediately.

Pool and spa drain covers are being recalled due to serious flow rate design flaws which County Environmental Health Director, Todd Jones, warns "if the cover is not sized appropriately, there is a hazard and a risk for someone who is swimming to become entrapped under water with these drains." The majority of these recalled drain covers would have been purchased between December 2008 and April 2011.

If consumers own a defective pool drain cover, it is advisable to return this product immediately for safety reasons. Fresh Express Announces Voluntary Product Recall of Spinach

According to Grocery.com, the food producer Fresh Express had to recall 9 cases of its spinach products due to a possible Salmonella contamination. The products that were affected spinach products had product codes H082 and H081 and sell-by dates between April 6th and 7th. No cases of Salmonella poisoning linked to consumption of this product have occurred as of yet, according to the report.

The products were originally distributed throughout several states including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Rhode Island, Ohio, and New Jersey among several other states. Salmonella can be extremely dangerous and even fatal for children and the elderly as well as people with serious health conditions such as cancer, AIDS, and diabetes.

Salmonella is a very dangerous bacterium that can cause anything from abdominal cramps and vomiting to fever, diarrhea, and headaches. According to the CDC, in 2007 Salmonella was the second most common food-borne illness accounting for 27% of outbreaks and illnesses. Roughly 5 out of every 18 deaths caused by bacteria were related to Salmonella bacteria. Product liability with food products is extremely important, especially for restaurants and vendors as any illness could not only lead to potential lawsuits but also hurt their sales as well. However, if a company knowingly sells products contaminated with Salmonella or any other bacteria that could cause harm to their customers, they should be held responsible for their negligence in the matter. Nobody should have to suffer any type of serious injury or illness as a result of negligence from a vendor selling contaminated products.
