The CPSC has announced a product recall of 7,460 slow cookers imported by the company Lehrhoff ABL and sold at Burlington Coat Factory stores due to a product safety hazard. This recall involves the Bella Kitchen brand of programmable slow cookers. The recall came as a result of a fire hazard with the slow cookers. According to the CPSC, the control panels on the cookers can melt due to excessive heat and could potentially cause a fir
So far the manufacturer of the slow cookers has had 60 reports of problems with the slow cookers that caused the control panel to melt, spark and three cases, the cookers caught fire. The CB Online report states that roughly 14 of these 60 incidents have resulted in minor damage to consumers’ countertops. No injuries have been linked to this defective product as of yet. The affected slow cookers can be returned to Burlington Coat Factory for a refund or for store credit.
Product safety issues can arise as a result of many different factors and these factors vary depending on the product that is affected. Despite strict regulations in the United States for product safety, some efforts for quality control and product safety within a company fail to detect potential hazards for consumers resulting in a recall of those items. In many cases, the manufacturers of the product in question could be held liable for injuries to consumers as a result of failure to maintain proper safety measures. This is especially true if the company is aware of the malfunction or defect and still fails to recall affected items and consumers are injured or killed as a result.

In a case of product liability, the company EB Brands in Yonkers, NY has had to recall roughly 29,700 of its Everlast Resistance Stretch Tubing and Everlast Pilates Stretch exercise bands citing a malfunction in the tubing which can cause the bands to break and strike the user. The recalled bands were reportedly sold between March of 2010 and December of 2010.
Product safety and product liability is a significant issue that unfortunately can plague many companies. Many products have been known to malfunction in one way or another, sometimes causing very serious injuries to users in the process. The most dangerous and widely publicized case of product safety and liability is the Toyota motor vehicle recall that has gone on for several months. While this incident does not describe a case of motor vehicle recalls, it is nonetheless a serious hazard.
Product safety and product liability are two concerns that every company should be well aware of and while all companies usually take several precautions and steps to ensure the safety of their products, sometimes products slip through the cracks undetected. Announcing a recall of these products is one of the best ways to avoid injury to consumers and provide a more quality product as well.

The caplets have been stated to cause sickness after ingesting the pills and there is a prominent musty or moldy odor coming from the bottles according to reports. Johnson and Johnson’s McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit was receiving complaints from people who reported nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea after consuming the pills. It is the fifth time that Johnson and Johnson have issued a recall on one of their nonprescription medicine such as Tylenol, Benadryl and Motrin because of complaints about an unpleasant odor. The product was identified as the Tylenol eight-hour caplets sold in the 50-count bottles in the United States and Puerto Rico. According to Johnson and Johnson, the odor was caused by a chemical called 2, 4, 6-tribromoanisole. The affected Tylenol bottles are labeled lot number BCM155, UPC code 30045-0297-518, according to the Tylenol website.
If you or a family member has used to caplets involved in the recall and are feeling the adverse affects, you should contact a doctor immediately. It was not stated in the article whether or not the affected consumers have faced any serious long-term health impairments. Elderly individuals or those who have suffered other serious health problems are especially vulnerable to these types of illnesses caused by defective over the counter medicine.

The New York Times reports that the automaker Toyota has reached an out-of-court settlement with the relatives of a family that was killed in an automobile accident involving one of their cars. According to the report, their Lexus sedan sped out of control due to a sudden acceleration problem. Toyota did not reveal the amount of the settlement but did confirm that a settlement was reached.
The accident named in the suit occurred one year ago when off-duty Highway Patrol officer Mark Saylor could not stop the vehicle from accelerating. The vehicle reached speeds of up to 120mph at one point. The vehicle later collided with another on the highway and landed in a ravine nearby. The 45-year-old police officer died as well as his wife, 45-year-old Cleofe Saylor, and their 13-year-old daughter. In addition, Cleofe Saylor’s brother died in the accident as well. The report reveals Toyota eventually recalled roughly 8 million vehicles total following this and several other incidents. According to the report, Toyota could potentially lose billions if they lose any other lawsuits that may be filed against them.
Although the lawsuits that Toyota has faced obviously demonstrate negligence on their part to properly repair or maintain certain vehicles, their compliance with any settlements and recalls shows their good faith in trying to remedy the situation. While settlements may alleviate the financial damage that these accidents cause, it will never alleviate the loss of loved ones that the victims in these incidents suffer. That is the biggest loss that these automobile accidents cause.

Pampers, a popular diaper brand distributed across the country developed a new diaper technology that keeps diapers thinner and drier but is receiving complaints that the diaper causes their babies to suffer from painful, blistering rashes.
The diapers that contain the new supposed dry max technology are considered high performance diapers according to Pamper’s website. Yet thousands of parents are posting pictures and comments of the symptoms that their baby is suffering as a result of wearing the diapers. Parents are stating that their children never suffered from these types of ailments before they began the use of these diapers. There are approximately 11,000 people nationwide who have made claims against the diapers. Proctor and Gamble have denied the claims that there is any problem with the diapers and claims that they considered more than 20,000 babies and more than 300,000 diaper changes during its safety evaluation. Starting in January 2010 there have been 57 reported injuries from the defective diapers.
For parents with babies, hundreds of diapers are put to use during a baby’s lifetime. You trust that these products have been safely tested and that they have no chance of causing any physical harm to your baby. The manufactures have the responsibility to the consumer to recall defective products and to take responsibility if their product is causing any harm. Watching a baby suffer a physical ailment should never occur to any parent.

Salmonella is a potentially deadly infection that can cause many symptoms including diarrhea, fever, vomiting, chills, headache, muscle pain and blood in the stool. The disease is considered deadly due to the risk of dehydration due to diarrhea and vomiting. In other cases, salmonella can lead to other complications including typhoid fever. It is very important that you ensure that you have not purchased or consumed any products that could potentially be contaminated with salmonella. If you purchased any product that is contaminated, you should contact a medical professional who can assist you in fighting the infection. You can also consult an attorney for compensation if the salmonella poisoning leads to other more serious injuries or death.

Fresh Express Company, a prominent lettuce and greens distributer is recalling 2,825 cases of Veggie Lovers Salad due to a potential contamination with the disease causing bacterium Listeria monocytogenes according to an article by the Associated Press.
The Ohio Department of Agriculture tested one package of Fresh Express and it tested positive for the foodborne pathogen. The exact product that is being recalled has a product code of 1208 and a use-by date of August 10th. New York and New Jersey are among the states where the greens were distributed, but it has been reported that many other states were affected by the contaminated distribution according the FDA and Fresh Express. Just last month Fresh Express recalled its Hearts of Romaine salads because of a potential E.coli contaminiation. The FDA have stated that there have been no reported illnesses as a result of the recall. Consumers of the infected lettuce are asked to throw it away. Listeria (the type of bacteria found in the lettuce) is a type of bacteria that can cause severe food poisoning and gastrointestinal problems especially with pregnant women and people with low immune systems.
Food poisoning can cause moderate to severe health problems and should never occur from a food distributer. Food poisoning can be extremely painful and costly if hospitalization and medications are involved. If you have been a victim of food poisoning and have suffered injuries as a result, contacting an Arizona personal injury attorney is your best option to receive compensation or your injuries.

Children’s toys are always a concern when purchased or received for a young child. Most of the time they are assumed safe and non hazardous, but it is important for parents to be aware of cases like this one when the toys are considered dangerous. No parent should ever have to go through having a child injured or killed due to a defective toy. The manufacturer is responsible for any hazard their product presents. If your child has been injured or killed by a recalled toy, then contacting an Arizona personal injury attorney is your best option to receive the compensation you and your family deserve.

On Monday August 9th 2010 the Honda Motor Co. stated that they were recalling more than 380,000 of its vehicles to fix an ignition switch problem. This will mark the third major consumer problem that Honda Motor Co. has had since 2003.
The ignition switch can lead to a vehicle rolling away and causing a collision. The ignition key interlock is problematic because they can be damaged or worn after use. When the ignition key is damaged or worn it could remove completely and cause the car to roll away. The recall will affect 197,000 Honda Accords and 117,000 Honda Civics from the 2003 model year and roughly 69,000 Element vehicles from the 2003 and 2004 model years in the United States. Honda released a statement that said it had received many complaints about the failure and is aware of a few incidents with only one resulting in a minor injury. The company stated that they will be notifying customers about their vehicles necessary repairs by late September and encourages affected vehicles to contact a dealer as soon as possible after receiving the notification.
Vehicles are depended upon in millions of families across the country. When you purchase a new car you expect that the car will last years before encountering any problems. You certainly never expect that a manufacturer problem can potentially kill or harm any of your loved ones. A major manufacturer like Honda has the responsibility to ensure that every part of their vehicles is safe and reliable for every family. Any negligent manufacturer must be held responsible for injuries that occur from faulty items. If you or a loved one has been injured from an item that has been recalled, contacting an Arizona personal injury attorney is your best option for compensation.

According to the website nwcn.com, the Natural Balance Pet Food Company is recalling several of its 5 lb. and 28 lb. bags of sweet potato and chicken dry dog food because tests have shown that it may be contaminated with salmonella. According to the report, the dog food was manufactured in December of 2009 with a written “Best by” date of June 2011.
The company has stated that they have not received any complaints or reports of illness as a result of the contaminated dog food. The report states that twenty-six states have been affected by the recall. Anybody that purchased the recalled dog food can return it to the store from which they bought it and get a full refund.
Salmonella can not only affect animals but also people. In this instance, the contaminated dog food becomes the source from which the dogs get sick and then pass the illness on to their owners. There are several symptoms that can affect both animals and humans alike including vomiting, stomach pain, fever, and diarrhea. The recall from the Natural Balance company is exactly the kinds of preventative measures a company should take in order to ensure the safety and health of their consumers.

The Washington Post has reported that Perdue Farms, a chicken processing plant located in Georgia, has voluntarily recalled 92,000 pounds of its frozen chicken nuggets. The recall has been announced due to a concern that the nuggets could contain small pieces of blue plastic inside the packages.
The Great Value brand of Fully Cooked Chicken Nuggets is currently sold in Wal-Mart stores throughout the nation. At the time the report had been posted, no incidents of illness had been reported. The U.S. Agriculture Department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service have urged customers to see a physician if they are concerned about injury or illness resulting from consuming this product.
Food safety is a factor that all companies should be aware of and should maintain. Many food borne illnesses can occur from a variety of reasons including contaminants such as metals, chemicals or other contaminants. These contaminants can cause illnesses such as food poisoning which can be very harmful if it is not handled early. Many people have been killed as a result of contracting food poisoning. Roughly 27 million people have been killed after contracting food poisoning and not taking care of it in time. The fact that Perdue Farms has announced this recall shows their concern for the safety of their consumers.

A grand jury has filed a subpoena against Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp. to get access to documents regarding defects in the steering components of certain Toyota models. The documents the grand jury subpoenaed were unrelated to other incidents of safety investigations with the sudden acceleration of certain vehicles.
According to the report, the subpoena was issued 3 weeks ago on June 29th and requested documents related to broken or otherwise malfunctioning relay rods for the vehicles. The malfunctioning relay rods caused either partial or total loss of control in steering. An incident with the relay rods occurred as far back as 2004 in Japan which injured five people. In an unrelated incident, in April Toyota was forced to pay $16.4 million in fines because they failed to announce a recall of gas pedals that were sticking.
Toyota has faced a huge amount of scrutiny because of the issues that have been increasing with many of their vehicles. This subpoena is not the first that Toyota has faced according to this report. In addition, Toyota has also faced several recalls and product liability lawsuits since September because of many defects and malfunctions with their vehicles.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, a voluntary recall has been announced by Campus Cruisers because the front fork could potentially crack or break. As of the time the report was posted, CPSC had received four reports of cracks in the front forks; however, no injuries have been reported as yet.
The recall affects the company’s Eastside Fix, single speed bicycles with aluminum frames. The defect in the front forks could potentially cause the rider to lose control of steering and could also cause a serious fall. In order to prevent such incidents, the CPSC urges consumers to contact their local Campus Cruisers dealer and request a free repair of the front forks. Campus Cruisers can also be contacted through their website or email address. The Campus Cruisers website has also posted information regarding the recall on their website which can be accessed via the link below.
Defects such as these are common with bicycles and can easily cause serious accidents. Some of these defects could be the result of negligent manufacturing. In the case of a defect in the front fork, the crack or break in the fork could cause damage to the front tire of the bike and force the rider to lose control of the bike. It could also lead to bigger defects in the rest of the bike frame as well.

According to a report posted by thestreet.com, Kellogg has announced a recall of 28 million boxes of cereal due to a strange smell and flavor emanating from the packaging. Among the cereals being recalled are Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, and Froot Loops cereals. Kellogg reported that there is a low risk of serious health problems; however, it is possible for some consumers to become ill, suffering symptoms of nausea and diarrhea.
Kellogg’s Smacks are also included in the recall. The report, which can be found at the link below, provides information on the UPC codes for each of the recalled products as well as information on the dates they were sold and the package sizes.
A company that provides products such as breakfast cereal for consumers could potentially come under fire if consumers become seriously ill resulting from anything related to their product. In this case, if it is discovered that the odor and taste is a result of a chemical and consumers become seriously ill, many consumers could wind up suing the Kellogg company for negligence in maintaining the safety of their breakfast cereals. All companies have a standard of quality control and in some cases, unfortunately, that standard is not always met, such as in this incident.

PRNewswire.com is reporting that Target stores and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have announced a recall of children’s belts due to excessive levels of lead found in the belt buckles of the belts. The levels of lead in the buckles exceed the federal standard that the EPA allows. According to the report, roughly 105,150 units have been recalled as a result of the dangers from the lead levels.
There are two brands associated with the recall; they are Cherokee boys belts and Circo girl’s belts. The belts were manufactured in China and sold in Target stores between December 2008 and December 2009. Consumers are strongly urged to stop using the belts and return them to any Target store to receive a full refund of the purchase amount.
The federal lead standard was originally set in place to prevent lead poisoning primarily amongst children as they are the most susceptible to suffering lead poisoning. Children are particularly in danger of lead poisoning because they ingest a higher percentage of lead than adults, which greatly increases the toxicity of lead. Lead poisoning can cause brain damage, diminished bone and muscle development, damage to the nervous system as well as to the kidneys.

The bond between a pet owner and their pet is often an overlooked companionship. With each special bond that you have with your pets you expect that taking good care of them is enough to keep them from harm. Unfortunately there are items for your pet that can cause them serious injuries and even death. On June 14th, 2010 Iams released a statement recalling their Iams ProActive Health canned cat food in the 3 and 5.5 cans with expiration dates of September 2011 and June 2012.
The cat food was sold nationwide and contained a lack of thiamine which cats need in their food in order to be healthy. The vitamin is necessary for the health of the cat’s central nervous system. When a cat does not have enough thiamine for a long period of time, a variety of things can occur.
The symptoms that your cat may feel if they have been eating the cat food includes: loss of weight, vomiting, loss of appetite, salivation, downward curving of the neck, wobbly gait, falling, and seizures. Different breeds of cats may experience only some of symptoms and sometimes all. If you think that your cat is suffering from a thiamine deficiency then contacting a veterinarian as soon as possible. The risk of your cat suffering any serious health problems is lowered if your cat was eating the defective cat food along with other cat food. The other Iams food was not at risk. If you purchased the defective cat food you may pursue a refund with Procter & Gamble who has someone available from 9am until 7pm at the following number: 877-340-8826.

Business week has posted a report stating that two of Ford Motor Company’s vehicles are currently under investigation because the floor mats on the driver’s side may cause the accelerator pedals to stick. The malfunction may affect 249,300 of the company’s 2010 model Fusion and Mercury Milan.
According to the report, three complaints have been filed, however, no accidents or injuries have occurred in these incidents. This is similar to the malfunction that affected several Toyota vehicles in the past which led to 5.4 million vehicles being recalled. The review from the NHTSA could potentially lead to a recall.
If this recall does occur, it will be one of many that have plagued the automotive industry in the last year for various malfunctions and defects in the vehicles. Toyota, Chevrolet, Porsche and several other automobile companies have been forced to recall vehicles for incidents ranging from stuck accelerator pedals to defects in the frame of certain vehicles that caused a spare tire to fall onto roadways. In many cases, some of the defects or malfunctions have resulted in accidents of varying severity. If the NHTSA deems it necessary for a recall to occur, it is very important for automobile companies to abide by that recall in order to ensure the safety of their consumers.

Businessweek.com has a report that Toyota has halted sales of the Lexus LS Sedan in the United States in order to rectify flaws in the steering wheel. The automaker recalled 3,800 of the 2009 and 2010 LS 460 models as well as the LS 600h L sedans in order to fix a steering wheel condition that could occur in certain driving conditions. A total of 11,500 Lexus vehicles have been recalled worldwide as a result of this steering wheel malfunction. The report states that no injuries or accident complaints have been made as a result of the malfunctioning steering wheel.
Toyota has been at the forefront of the media as a result of several incidents that required them to recall now over 8 million of their vehicles in the past year. According to this report, the president of Toyota stated that their concern has shifted to their consumers and that is the reason for the recalls that they have made thus far this year. Some might think this is a case of too-little-too-late because of all the problems that have plagued the automaker including huge fines and several lawsuits and complaints against them. However, despite all the recalls and negative media attention that Toyota has been receiving over the last few months, they are still working to rectify the problems with their vehicles in order to ensure the safety of their consumers. That is one of the most important measures any product manufacturer can take in order to maintain good faith with the consumer and prevent any unnecessary danger or harm to customers.

The website newsinferno.com is reporting that a New York senator will be introducing legislation to ban cribs that have a rail that drops down on the side. These drop side cribs make it easier for parents to be able to pick up their child when they are in the crib; however, the report states many unfortunate incidents have occurred due to malfunction in the crib rail.
The rail can easily slide down or completely fall off of the crib, which presents a dangerous hazard for the child in the crib. The report also states these cribs could present a suffocation or strangulation hazard. According to the report, the Consumer Products Safety Commission has issued recalls on more than 7 million of these cribs due to safety hazards for the child.
Drop side cribs have been used for many years and according to the report, have been known to cause many accidents that have led to fatalities in almost every case. Although drop side cribs have a convenient design for parents or caretakers and allow easy access into the crib, the danger that these types of cribs present for a child far outweighs the advantages for them. The number of fatalities compounds the problem of the danger these cribs present and make enacting legislation to ban them seem like a very viable and necessary measure. Although voluntary bans from major vendors may prevent the danger to an extent, enacting legislation ensures that the child’s safety is taken into consideration and ideally should completely remove the danger that children face with these cribs.

The website webMD.com is reporting that North Carolina-based Family Dollar stores are announcing a voluntary recall of sets of toy dart guns following reports of asphyxiation deaths linked to the toys. The report states that a 9-year-old in Chicago and a 10-year-old in Milwaukee were killed as a result of asphyxiation.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, a choking hazard can occur if a child puts the toy darts in their mouths. The darts can be easily inhaled and restrict breathing resulting in death. The Family Dollar stores have volunteered the recall since the company that imports the toys – Henry Gordy International – refused a recall of their own. The CPSC has requested that consumers report any incidents, whether they are related to asphyxiation or not, to the CPSC website.
Product recalls occur when that product may pose a serious danger for consumers. Unfortunately, in some cases, some companies seem to refuse product recalls despite known incidence reports in order to avoid loss of money. This report demonstrates that exact situation where the importing company refuses to conduct their own recall. In cases like this, companies such as the CPSC or vendors themselves often take it upon themselves to recall the products on their own as is demonstrated here. It is also extremely important to conduct recalls of products when they can potentially cause harm to a child. Children’s safety should always be the absolute highest priority of any manufacturer or vendor of products targeted to kids.

As more information is uncovered about the extent of Toyota safety problems and the company's attempt to cover them up, old Toyota safety cases are being reopened. According to Gather.com, Toyota currently has over 100 lawsuits pending for injuries or deaths related to the excessive acceleration problem that caused January's massive recall. As more information has been uncovered, it has been revealed that Toyota's safety problems may go back several years and not be limited to excessive acceleration
Old cases being reopened include lawsuits for accidents that may have been caused, at least in part, by Toyota equipment malfunctions. They also include a Minnesota man who was sentenced to 8 years in prison after causing an accident that killed 3 while driving a Toyota Camry. The man's lawyers are arguing that the crash may have been caused by the sudden acceleration problem.
The ongoing Toyota safety scandal illustrates the often-hidden role that equipment malfunction and faulty manufacturing can have in car accidents. Even if the causes of an accident seem apparent at first, equipment malfunction may play a role that is not always obvious. That is why it is important that you contact an experienced auto accident attorney whenever you are involved in an accident. An experienced attorney can fully investigate an accident to find all possible causes.
